Nature Island Standards of Excellence (NISE) Certification Program

Established in 2005 under the legal framework of the Tourism (Regulations and Standards) Act No. 13 of 2005, the program plays a crucial role in regulating and certifying tourism services in Dominica, mandating individuals and entities offering tourism services to adhere to specified Tourism Standards.

Benefits of Being NISE Certified

Complying with Standards helps organizations and tourism service providers implement effective quality control processes, leading to consistent and improved product or service quality. This continuous improvement in quality leads to greater customer satisfaction over time.

Certified entities can participate in the Discover Dominica Authority's marketing initiatives, showcase their property brochures at tourist information offices, and promote their specials on the Authority's website and radio program. These privileges significantly enhance the business's visibility and reputation.

How to Become NISE Certified

Acquiring NISE certification involves a streamlined process:

  1. Submit a completed application form and requisite documents to the Quality Assurance Unit of the Discover Dominica Authority.
  2. Undergo a facility inspection or service provider evaluation.
  3. The Tourism Licensing Committee then reviews the application and recommends that the Minister for Tourism issue certification or license if you qualify.

News and Updates

The Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) has intensified its efforts to improve certification ratings, particularly within the accommodation sector. As part of this initiative, the QAU launched a campaign to increase awareness of the Nature Island Standards of Excellence (NISE) certification program, commonly called the DDA certification program.

In line with the campaign, the QAU has decided to redesign and refresh the certification logo. This updated logo will be awarded to service providers, such as tour operators and accommodations, that meet the NISE program's requirements. Certified entities can feature the logo in their marketing efforts, and their information will be listed on the DDA's website.
