Kayaking Dominica

Dominica offers a growing number of opportunties for kayakers: in rivers, on lakes, and along the sea's coast.

The fresh waterways of Dominica's western shoreline provide attractive routes for kayakers. Paddle down a portion of the Layou River, Dominica's longest, along matted buttress roots, cooing birds, and diverse habitat. While you absorb the spectacular scenery, experienced and competent guides ensure that you navigate the light river rapids successfully to the estuary that connects to the Caribbean Sea, where you can bath, snorkel or simply frolic at the bay.

Kayaking at high altitude on the Freshwater Lake ('Warmmae Letang') is a unique experience and testifies to the island's hypnotic charm and diverse scenery.

Sea kayaking off the island is equally exciting. The placid Soufriere Bay is an ideal route for beginners. The rich diversity of marine life and the serenity of the cove at the Soufriere-Scotts Head Marine Reserve are particularly appealing to Kayakers.
